Practice These Things

Nike said, “Be Like Mike!”  Yet we all knew the closest we could get to being like Michael Jordan was wearing the same shoes.  Paul says, “What you have learned, received, heard, seen in me – practice these things.”  Be like Paul!  But behind this, really, Paul is pointing us to Jesus about whom Paul has been writing through this whole letter.  This command is an echo of what Paul wrote to the Corinthian Church: imitate me, as I imitate Christ.  Learning and doing Christianity is not an option; it is a command.  But a command with a promise: “the God of peace will be with you.”
