Jonathan Edwards is known, among other things, for his personal resolutions. Americans love to make New Year’s resolutions, determined to do better during the coming year.
At Mission Presbyterian, we’ve adopted Paul’s “resolution” in 1 Cor. 2:2 – to know nothing except Christ and Him crucified.
I’m not one for making resolutions, for all sorts of reasons I won’t go into here. But if I can encourage anything in the way of a resolution, it would be to keep it simple and focus on Christ. It is God’s purpose to comform us into His image. Anything else carries the danger of getting caught up in the seductive lie that I can make myself better, when in reality I am nothing without Christ and what He has done for me. If anything, be grateful for what Jesus has done for you and live with that as your motivation.
This Sunday we have the privilege of hearing Ben Muresan, currently in seminary and under the care of our presbytery, speak to us about Paul’s “resolution” in 1 Corinthians.
Join us and start the year off right!
